231 Now

Being young means there are many new things to try. There are also many responsibilities to say hello to.

Being young also means paying for everything that comes after graduation. In high school we are so sheltered. There is no life skills course that teaches you how to succeed. Lets face it, there are only so many ways you can divide five bucks between 10 bills.

After school, we are told we need to go to college for yet more school. But for what? To waste money and spend decades in debt the second we graduate and call our selves college grads? There are so many kids out there who are taking on thousands of dollars in student loans because their family didn’t qualify for the Pell or any other financial aid. It’s not right. Especially when they can't even say that their education will do them any good once they graduate. The job they are going after may not be there in five years.

With college tuition costs being what they are, and the job market being so tight, it really makes it hard for someone my age to succeed or even want to try.

My dad always told me that I’m growing up in one of the hardest times in the states right now, and although I didn’t believe or understand him at the time, I am witnessing first hand what he meant everyday. Of course, he said college gives you opportunities too and so far, I'm seeing a lot of college grads at McDonalds.
