Why I Believe Christians Should Call For Healthcare Reforms.

I wrote and uploaded an essay I wrote. Please do not be afraid of the word "Christian"; it is for all readers, not just Christians. I target Christians because they seem to be the strongest opponents to healthcare reforms, especially HR-676 single-payer. I find that a paradox because Christians are suppose to care for the needy.

Since my writing of the essay I have other observations of Christians; some say one reason why we just can't have universal healthcare is because we will have free abortions. I really believe the very opposite is true. Our fragmented and broken healthcare system is teaching people (especially those who can take having good insurance for granted) to disregard and devalue life. This will bring on a skyrocketing of abortions and euthanasias.

Furthermore, this will lead to illegal abortions; which will also place the woman's life in danger. The woman who is not lucky enough to have good insurance will go to an abortionist who is not licensed out of fear that she can't afford the medical expenses associated with her pregnancy and the medical needs of the child.

My purpose of this discussion is not to knock those who are pro-choice (abortion is okay). I am against abortion; but at this time I will leave it up to you and your conscience. You decide what you think to be right. My purpose is to tell Christians why it is wrong to oppose universal healthcare. I too am a born-again Christian. You may find yourself surprised to find a Christian who stands for HR-676 single-payer.

I wrote a song trying to expose some of the hipocracy with the pro-life. My purpose for this song is not to kick those who are pro-choice (abortion is okay); but to kick butt with the pro-life group (against abortion) like, HEY BROTHER, I AGREE WITH YOUR STAND; BUT WHEN SOMEONE DIES BECAUSE THEY LACK INSURANCE, THIS IS ABORTION; TOO.
You say abortion's wrong, indeed abortions wrong, with this I strongly agree!
but when somebody dies because they don't have insurance, this too is abortion, CAN'T YOU SEE!
these babies have the right to life, God's people also have this right, to affordable healthcare
we must replace big business, for profit health insurance, with a system that generously shares.

Always be aware of this; even if you have insurance it doesn't mean you are protected. Insurance companies make their big profit by denying claims. They have expert lawyers and doctors working for them to research legal ways they can deny claims.

I agree. I believe that Christians who oppose their country covering every citizen, from rich to poor, for their healthcare needs have missed the very point of Jesus' teaching. Almost every other nation has realized this and acted to do the moral thing.

Well, we don't get to cherry pick from the Bible. If you believe the Bible's teachings you should do your best to abide by all of them, even those that aren't so comfortable for a lot of people. I'll be the first to admit I fail miserably at it. Thankfully, forgiveness is just one of many blessings.

Jeff and Mike, I think you gave very good replies. I have in other nings and other places been persecuted because I support the idea of single-payer. I was called a communist. No, I don't see myself as a communist, any more than our police, fire department, public school, and military are communism. I really believe, I can't be a Christian and oppose healthcare reforms. The essay mentions the late Larry Burkett of Christian Financial Concepts. He thinks the Church is suppose to provide the healthcare needs. I see that is something like the ideal; but largely the churches can't.
